This is my favorite !
It tastes great with Idiyappam and Aapam. I love it!
So here is the recipe for you:
Soak Black Chickpeas [1/2cup] for minimum 8hours.
Roast the following ingredients and Grind together adding little water:
-Grated coconut [1/2 cup]
-Cloves [2]
-Fennel seeds [1tsp]
Roast till coconut turns light brown in color and then Grind to smooth paste.
Heat oil [2tbs] in a pan.
Saute cardamom [1], few curry leaves and sliced onions [1 big one] till the onions are cooked.
Add chilli powder [1tsp], coriander powder [1½ tsp] and garam masala powder [1/4tsp].
Fry for a minute and then add the cooked chickpeas along with the water. Add salt.
Simmer for 3-4minutes.
Add the ground coconut masala and simmer once again for 2-3minutes.

Pressure cook the peas with little salt, turmeric powder [1/4tsp] and water [2cups] for 3whistles.
[Use the same water the chickpeas were soaked in.]
