- Soak Poppy seeds [1tbs] for 20minutes.
- Soak Bengal gram dal/Kadalai paruppu [1/2cup] for 30minutes separately.
- Grind coconut [5-8 one inch pieces] with soaked poppy seeds. Keep it aside.
- Cut potatoes [2: cut into big chunks] and drumstick [1]
Pressure cook Bengal gram dal with little salt and a big cup of water for 3whistles.
Mash it lightly using the ladle.
Then add sliced onions [1], chopped tomatoes [1/2], kuzhambhu masala powder [3tbs], turmeric powder [1/2tsp], potatoes, drumstick pieces and salt to the cooked dal. Add 2 cups of water.
Pressure cook once again for 3whistles.
Heat oil [1½ tbs] in a pan. Fry *whole garam spices for a minute.
Add small onions/shallots [4-5], few curry leaves and ginger-garlic paste [1tsp]. Fry for a minute and add the cooked dal and potato mixture to it. Let it cook for 2minutes.
Then add ground coconut paste. Simmer for 5minutes.
Garnish with cilantro leaves.
*Whole garam spices - Fennel seeds [1tsp], cloves [2] and cinnamon [1]
Goes well with Rice/Dosa.
